I will be moving to New Jersey this summer and will be commuting to north Newark to work. The commute from Nutley will be anywhere between 2-10 miles drive and I have reserved parking and everything, so not looking for public transportation. Planning on renting an apartment/condo/townhome and would like a 2-bedroom unit at $2200/mo or under.

I arrived at Nutley after first considering Montclair and Maplewood, which were just a bit too pricey due to all of the NYC commuters. Nutley is a similar distance and less expensive, but seems to offer similar amenities and has "more bang for the buck". I've read Nutley is ranked as one of the best places to live in NJ and am curious to hear your thoughts.

I am fine with a residential/suburban feel, and a non-diverse community. I will have my car so walking/public transportation is not a consideration. Likewise, proximity to bars/restaurants is not important either. I rarely ever drink anyway.

I am most concerned about safety. I know nearby Bloomfield has good and bad parts.

Thanks!

Safe. Between Belleville and Clifton. Which are also both safe.

Not sure about how many apartments there are in Nutley. It's more of a family town. But I'm sure you'll find something if you look long enough.

Nutley is actually relatively close to a number of restaurants and entertainment options. Traffic is a pain in the ass in that area though.

Quite a few apartments in Nutley. Some of them being brand new. Many are lined up on River Road. A newer one has come up on Kingsland St. Some more on Franklin Ave. There is a gated community made up of 2 bed town homes but the rents are typically upward of $2500. There is another gated community less than half a mile on River Road which has a Clifton Zipcode but shares all the amenities and benefits of being in close proximity to Nutley.

Town has all the required shops, bakeries, pubs, movie theaters, grocery stores and even a Costco in Clifton. It has a train and bus option to NY plus an easy connect to Rt 3 and 21. Primarily a family town with Italians being the largest group. Roads are worst kept pot hole ridden mess that has not been fixed in the last 10 years.

Thank you so much! I was looking at the River Road area. I will have to check out both of those gated communities, they sound promising.

The town itself sounds good, and proximity to 21 is important. I have an SUV so bad roads are not the end of the world.

Nutley is safe and not very "diverse" if that is what you are looking for. You could also look at Rutherford which is on the other side of river and very convenient to Route 21.

Translation=Don't even think of moving to Nutley if you are not of Italian extraction.

Nutley was mostly Italian 50 years ago but has changed, just still not very diverse.

Translation=The power structure in that town is still totally dominated by people of Italian extraction, and anyone whose DNA does not comport with that definition is at a MAJOR disadvantage in Nutley.

Maybe if you are looking for a job with the town, otherwise nobody will bother anyone for not being "Italian".
