How is Palisade Avenue at South Street and the surrounding area for Jersey City? I know it is near Hoboken but I am not sure how safe the area is. Is it possible to get into New York City via PATH or bus in under 45 minutes here? What town in New Jersey can get you into New York City the quickest?

I live in Jersey City in the downtown area and it is a great neighborhood. Downtown is the area right next to Hoboken, with the closest Path stations being Newport and Grove St. You can get to the World Trade Center from Grove St. in about 7 minutes. It takes about 15 minutes to get uptown to 33rd St. That is the farthest uptown the train goes. If you need to go farther you have to switch to the subway (no big deal). Jersey City is a little cheaper than Hoboken, and has a little more character (in my opinion). I'd be happy to answer any other questions.

Default south st/palisade

There's not a whole lot going on in that area.

You can walk to the light rail station, probably in about 10-15 mins. but if you look around, it's not a pretty area.

the downtown area is a much more hip area in jersey city (bars, restaurants) w/ more professionals

if you want another area of jersey city that is also not very hip, but safer than the area that borders hoboken you can try the western slope area (basically the jersey city heights but WEST of kennedy blvd. (East of kennedy is a little shadier).

if you're near kennedy blvd, you can hop on a mini van or bus to midtown very easily (you could also do this very easily from palisade ave.)

How long does it take on the bus from Kennedy Blvd. in that western slope area to 42nd St.?

Default bus to 42nd

western slope area - the walk to kennedy could be anywhere from a few minutes to 10-15 minutes, depending on how far west you are.

from a central location, say congress street and kennedy, the bus to 42nd street should take about 20 mins to 40 mins depending on traffic
