Well, they're the ones who are going to have a much more realistic understanding of the local market. You can even just call them and find out.

Quick update: we ending up buying a place in Rumson and we move in May. We are looking forward to getting down there for the summer. Thanks to everyone for their help on the forum.

We have two kids under 5 so anyone in the area with ideas for parents, please message me! We don't know too many people down there.

Congratulations! Rumson is a great area. If you can still afford it , look into joining one of the nearby beach clubs. Great way to meet people, especially with young kids.

im a member of a beach club. i always say that its best to join with people you know. even though there are lots of people there, social connections dont just fall in your lap. someone would need to make some efforts to make new friends there. we are friends with a lot of people at the beach club but i dont believe we made any new friends there.

Okay. To each his own I guess. Are you friends with your coworkers outside of work? I never was (couldn't get away from them fast enough most of the time), but I did make friends at the beach well enough to go have drinks with them. Not sure I'd put them in my will, but ya never know till you try.

well, my work situation isnt really conducive to me being legitimate friends with my co-workers. so i am not friends with them outside of work.

i certainly wouldnt say it isnt possible to make friends at the beach club but i find it still is a challenge and requires putting yourself out there. we have a cabana, shared with 3 other families. we just lost one and replaced them with my brother's family. we always have a big circle of people at the beach that we already have trouble finding space large enough. we make some new friends of friends and its possible to make friends with a cabanamate that you are stuck with but thats a crapshoot.

my brother's wife actually said that they are in this year but maybe not next year since she is trying to develop a group of friends and maybe will do something else next summer. its a real challenge unfortunately. it took my wife some time to do it but she was very successful ultimately and she is a social butterfly. i am just riding her coattails.

Good for your wife. I admire people who can do that. I am the antithesis, although I'm more likely to make friends listening to jazz at a club than a day at the beach.

Thank you very much! Any recommendations for which clubs to join? I will likely need to get on the wait list.
