We (family of 4 with 2 kids age 4 and 7) will move from the deep South to North New Jersey this summer. plan to rent for 1 year before buying a house. currently looking for rental houses/apartments/condos. There is a realtor who helps us looking for rental houses. However we'd like to have a list of apartments/condos in the area so that we can check them out on ourselves during our upcoming visiting trip. So far we only managed to find a couple apartment/condo buildings in the area online. We'd like to see if there's any apartment/condo buildings as well-kept secret in the area.
What we need: a good elementary school, a 3 bedroom apt/condo (preferred, if cannot find anything, 2 bedroom is also acceptable)
Areas we are looking at include livingston, millburn, and summit. So far, we've found: Short hills terrace, cedar gate at livingston,Worthington House Apartments. Any suggestions on other apartment/condo buildings which might not advertise online?
The towns you mentioned don't have a lot of big, modern apartment buildings. You'll find some older garden apartment complexes, but they may not have the level of luxury people tend to expect in those towns. Also, three-bedroom apartments are pretty scarce.
There are a bunch of duplex townhouses in Millburn you might consider. If you do a Zillow search on apartments/condos/townhouses in Millburn over $3,000, you'll see them clustered around the southern part of Main St. But I think they're owned by individuals, as opposed to a single management company.
There's another townhouse for rent closer to downtown Millburn. That is a fantastic location -- just a couple blocks away from downtown and the park, maybe a ten-minute walk to the train station. Probably too soon for you, but if you are commuting to NYC, being able to walk to the train is huge.

close to newark. I thought the schools are best at Milburn, then summit, and livingston as last, according to the ratings.
Out-of-towners always zero in on the towns at the very top of the school ratings, which also happen to be some of the most expensive towns in NJ. There are plenty of other towns with excellent schools. Even average schools will be better than where you're coming from (the deep south).
You said "close to Newark." Can you be more specific?
You are looking in towns that have relatively few rental places. As someone else said, if you zero in on the most expensive, upscale towns in New Jersey, you are not going to find many rentals, and you are severely limiting your search.
