My post poorly was worded. I did not intend to make a generalizing statement about 65 year-olds. I only meant to address the grumpy grumblers on this forum who happen to be 65 or older.
There are morons of ALL ages on this forum. Who can deny?
Are you serious? They are for your outdoor garbage cans where you dump the garbage bags from the garbage cans in all the rooms in your house at the end of the week.
Seriously? People use a garbage bag... to bag their other garbage bags? Why can't you just throw the latter garbage bags into the outdoor garbage can? Hose down the can every once in a while?
We have 65 gallon outdoor cans in my town, I've never seen anyone put a bag around those.
The fight is over. The whirling toilet water is imminently close to making that "thumping" sound as the remainder is flushed into the sewer. Highest property taxes, high sales tax, and we actually have the highest "effective" income tax because other states allow certain deductions. NJ is also number one in something that is not taxes: number of people leaving. As more people leave, taxes will go up and up exponentially to plug the holes. Oh yeah, and I just read that the Legislature is about to add some more taxes on shore rentals. Better hurry before the summer comes, and while there is still at least one shore-goer left to tax.
I am not a fan of all the taxes BUT just about every state levies a tax on short term vacation rentals. It's the renter who pays it, go to VRBO or Home away, pick a state, town for a mock booking and in the total you will see TAX
Today I learned America makes garbage bags in multiple sizes. So what are the big black bags I see on TV used for (when people "take out the trash") if no bins inside the house can fit them?
The very large black or dark green bags are known as "contractor bags" or "outdoor waste" bags. I am referring to the ones that vary in size from 45 gallons to 50 gallons... and possibly even a bit larger.
I use them when I am trimming shrubs, and pulling weeds. Carpenters and other home improvement workers use them to discard their wood and sheetrock trimmings, and other waste. They are clearly far too large for any in-home waste containers, and they are not designed for that type of use.
The point is, we ALREADY HAVE a recycling program in every single town. Why can't we throw the bags in with the plastic bottles? We don't need a new program. We don't need "encouragement". We don't need social engineering. Get the hell out of our lives.
The state wants more money. This is just another way to get it.
I'm just gonna be claiming I'm 65 every time then. Think they'll actually card me?
Probably.
My mother loves to brag about how stores always card her when she goes to take advantage of their senior discounts.
Also, I always get carded for beer/spirits/wine purchases at ShopRite. Pretty sure they card everyone who looks like they might possibly be younger than 35. I think some places even card everyone who looks like they may be under 50. (I have no illusions that I look under 21.)
Grocery stores don't shy away from carding.
Maybe you can start going to the supermarket in geriatric drag.
I do wonder what they're gonna do about self checkout. When I put my cloth bag in the bagging area, the cash register robot voice scolds me. It thinks I am putting a grocery item in the bagging area without scanning it first, i.e., it thinks I am trying Jean Valjean my victuals. Or if I leave my cloth bag in the cart, and transfer the item directly into the cart after scanning, it implores me to put it in one of the provided plastic bags. Then a clerk has to override the robot, and it becomes a whole big thing.

It's not just individual household garbage bags that get dumped into the outdoor can. Also, if you have an outdoor can lined with a garbage bag, you can dump things directly in there without having to collect/bag things in supermarket plastic bags first. For example, when the vacuum cleaner canister gets full, I walk it outside and dump it directly into the outdoor can. Then there are the dog poop baggies.
And middle school-like name callers of whom they disagree.
Come on, now. I'm not calling anyone names. It was a comment made in jest when someone took my dumb post to be generalizing about 65 year-olds, which I didn't intend to do, but that's what it sounded like, I know. When I made the 'moron' comment I was flippantly saying something along the lines of "I have just as much disdain for younger people." Fell flat. Post fail on my part. Listen...they can't all be winners.
I have no beef with 65+ year-olds, and I sincerely was trying to get the word out that they are exempt and don't need to pay any extra.
Also...I'm not even really disagreeing with, or criticizing plastic bag fans (regardless of age). In fact, I am giving them tips. I'm the one that suggested triple bagging produce/meat at every grocery store visit, in order to amass a free supply of pet waste bags.
