Does anyone know approximately how much time does it take to receive a parking permit? I am going to submit the application personally at the JCPA office. Is it handed over to you instantly or does it get mailed ?
I am willing to pay in cash, just want it as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Kunal

They'll give it to you right then and there. Just make sure you've completed the application properly and that you have proper proof of residence. Also remember that they only accept a certified check or money order. I went on a Tuesday morning. There weren't many people waiting, and the process only takes a few minutes.

My permit was only 15 dollars as a resident, I think it's a lot more if you're a non-resident. The JCPA can be a headache. You need to go to their office on central and bring everything, and copies of everything. When I went their copy machine was broken and I had to run all over the place to make a copy.

Yes, they do. I walked into office, showed deed, paid, got permit in minutes.

DL and vehicle registration must have your Jersey City address.

Do you have to have a car to get a parking permit? What if you just want to make sure that your guests can have a place to park when they come visit and stay overnight?
Of course, even with a permit, finding an actual spot to park is in itself a big head ache.

For people who get new/used cars: We were not told (nor does it say anything online) that the residential parking sticker from your old car cannot be used on your new car, even if you are using the same plates. We had our old plates in the back seat, waiting for our new registration to arrive for our new/used car. We were booted. The police officer with whom I spoke at the parking office said that we should have 1) gotten a new temporary residential permit and taken the old one off, and then, when the registration arrived from the state, we should 2) put the old sticker back on when we put the old plates back on.
No where does it say this online....as a matter of fact, the car dealership offered to take the sticker off our old car and put it on our new one, which they did.
Caveat emptor.....
