A significant percentage of the shoppers at the Jersey Gardens Mall are international tourists who are there to snap-up bargains before going back to EWR for their return flights to their home countries. Surely you must have noticed how many non-English speaking people are buying wheeled suitcases at Jersey Gardens, and pulling them from store to store in order to stock-up on low-priced clothing.

My relatives from England used to buy an extra suitcase to fill. Jeans were very popular.

Bergen Towne Center mall has been killing it the past few years. It's amazing how much the developers were able to turn that property around. There is a Ruth's Chris steakhouse moving into the space vacated by Potbelly & Pei Wei.

about 5-10 mins from the mall, the development guys bought land to build a 24 hour family gym entertainment center. LA Fitness I think is gonna be called.
I think the Bridgewater Mall is a nice one, and get there occasionally although it's a pretty good drive for me from PA

Malls like GSP are places where people enjoy eating, walking, hanging out.
Paramus Park is actually busy on Saturdays and holidays and some rather go to this mall due to being less busy.

Trump will end NAFTA which will allow American manufacturing to come back (obviously not to NJ because of how it is governed). A boost to American manufacturing I believe will keep retail afloat. But who knows maybe retail won't die either way, Americans love being consumers enough to keep these malls from having to shut the doors.

Honestly, consumerism gives most Americans (especially in states with crappy climates like NJ) a reason to leave their house. You can "go out and do something" like shopping unless you're an outdoorsy person who can find tons of outdoor activities to do, because outdoorsy things will never close down!
