Hi all,
My family of 5 is going to be in Bucks County visiting my parents this summer and we want to take a one-day excursion into NYC. We have done this a lot in the past, always driving and parking at the Hamilton Station and taking NJ Transit in. However, now that 4 out of 5 of us are adults, that option is getting to be very expensive. I was thinking of driving farther north into New Jersey and taking a cheaper way in.
After looking at options, it appears that we can drive to Harrison and park for maybe $20 for the day and take PATH in for about $6 each. Once in NYC, we plan to visit the Tenement Museum and stay in the Lower East Side.
Does this sound like a decent plan or is there a better/easier way to get to where we want to go without spending $30 per person.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone. I don't think we feel like driving into the city. We will not be there on a Sunday, but free parking in NYC sounds great! I'll look into the Jersey City option.
The Tenement Museum seems quite popular, so I would buy my tickets in advance if that is what we decide to do. I've been tracing my genealogy intently for the past 6 months and on and off for the past 30 years. My great-grandparents and grandparents settled in the Lower East Side in 1898, and my mother grew up there in the 1940s, so I wanted to reconnect with our family roots and show my kids.
Since I live in NC now, I don't get too many chances to visit NY and I figured a day trip while visiting my folks in PA would be relatively easy. So any helpful tips are great! Hopefully, it won't be too hot. Thanks again!
I used to commute into NYC way back when even the bridge or tunnel toll was 50 cents,, yeah I KNOW,,, then they made it $1 round trip. PATH used to be about 75 cents but I think went up to $1.50 lately???
And no I'm not old, just an older teenager
One thing i haven't tried, I know it costs about $12 or $15 to go over a bridge or tunnel into NYC but I hear if you get over to the Staten Island ferry the trip is FREE, no fare. I don't know what parking is like around there but it's a possibiiity,,, go over the Goethals Bridge then head to the NE part of SI.

Jersey City marina parking is $13 (?) a day. Take the ferry right there or PATH on Grove St...a few min walk. Take PATH to WTC, Village or 33rd St. Lots of options.
If you know how to get there from Hamilton, I would just do that
I feel like all of the places you would be driving to in order to get closer would be just as hectic as driving into the city directly
That being said, I would also reconsider just driving in directly. It’s really not that bad!
Have a nice trip!
