We were in Arverne off the first stop out there on the A - Beach 67th. I know there were worse areas in the Rockaways but there were always way better areas. The thing now is that we are considering kids at some point, so we have to take that into consideration not just with what we can tolerate or manage in a neighborhood but also their safety and school situation. I think that's the biggest drawback for us right now. We love the houses in the area and the ease of commute to NYC on NJ Transit train, just uncertain about how people would treat us in the area and a possible family down the road.

Two gay white boys with a possible kid needing quick NYC commute: I’d recommend Maplewood, South Orange, or Montclair as my first choices.

Even the bad areas of these towns would be ok and have lower-prices houses.

Disregard my previous suggestions as the schools aren’t decent.
