I don't have much love for Atlantic City. I've always liked the quieter beach towns, but I'm rooting for them. They have beaches. There's no reason why they can't make this work.

It doesn't matter if you throw a trillion dollars into AC, the quality of life that gambling and large casinos attracts is low.

It was pretty much for old people and hardcore gamblers. Like a guys night out trip.

Now, they have the outlet shops, that big Pier Mall, and the Bass Pro Shops. It's much more female and family friendly now than it ever was. So, you could argue it's really at its peak.

I mean, down from the 50s and 60s, yea. But I wasn't there then.

I remember back when the Revel opened. That was supposed to be a big turning point for AC. We all know how that went. AC's biggest asset is the beach. They really need to come up with a more creative way of sprucing up the beach and incorporating it into the rest of the city's entertainment. Make it a complete tourist and vacation destination.

Atlantic City has always had its ups and downs - Bruce Springsteen got it right 35 years ago:
"Everything dies, baby that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back."

I am rooting for AC, but the chips are stacked against it (pun sort of intended). It probably did hit rock bottom a few years ago when a few casinos closed, but it still has to contend with the slums, crime, a perception problem and gambling more convenient to the population centers in Philly, NYC and the DC area.

Partnering with the university is a good move and education is not cyclical with the economy, although the university does not pay property taxes. Also not sure how many parents would be keen on sending their college kid to school in a city known for vice. Aside from the ocean, the two other things AC has in its favor is that top acts still perform there which is unlikely to change and it's an easy train ride from Philly so that could attract younger adults for weekend trips especially if Philly continues to grow as the middle class who still want an urban lifestyle are priced out of NYC.

Asbury Park has turned it around, so maybe there's some hope.

there needs to be more development further beyond the hotels. you need to push out the locals further away. atlantic city has the casinos and it has beaches. it should be possible to make it into a successful resort town.

That's basically what happened in Long Branch which is seeing a revival now. Small town but same idea

AC is like a restaurant location I know of. Over the last 20 years it has had at least 8 different restaurants and even more facelifts.

AC is in NJ, so expect nothing but a celebration of conception, then all walk away and forget to nurture and develop what they bought forth. AC is more like the waves that lap up its shores. unbroken string of peaks and valleys
