TOMS RIVER - The Toms River Regional school district will pay $850,000 in transportation stipends this school year to parents whose children mostly attend Orthodox Jewish schools in Lakewood.
Parents whose children attend private schools receive a $1,000 annual stipend if the district does not provide busing to those schools, Toms River Regional Business Administrator William Doering said.
Four years ago, the district made $143,000 in stipend payments to parents of about 150 children who attended private schools in Lakewood.
For the upcoming school year, the district has budgeted $850,000 to pay stipends to parents of about 850 children who will attend Orthodox Jewish schools in the neighboring town, Doering said. That's a nearly 500 percent increase since the 2014-2015 school year.
Fifteen years ago I almost hit two guys crossing the street. It was in the middle of a block, so I guess OK to them because they were discussing...religious matters.
they are paying the property taxes and not utilizing the public schools. so why shouldnt they get something for their money? the incredible greed of people complaining about this arrangement is impressive.
All for this, private schools usually provide a better education and it's saving the town money. It would probably be better if we just eliminated the public school system and made it private with a voucher system.

What nonsense.
As an added attraction, you can also pay to put your children in close contact with sexual predators and pedophiles.
