Hi -

I am a first buyer and looking to purchase a house. I am currently working in Paramus and may be transferring to Morris Township, in Morris County. Since I am not 100% sure if I will be transferring or not, I would like to puchase a house in an area in between the 2 locations. I am looking for an area that is less than 30 minutes in commute to either location with a Jewish Community with good schools. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Pequannock section of Wayne is right off 23. This gives you 'easy on, easy off' to I-80 for both Morris Township and Paramus.

What about the Fairfield, Pine Brook, Totowa, or West Caldwell areas?

I can tell you Fairfield has the lowest taxes of any Essex County community.

I grew up in West Caldwell. I'd say 80% of the student body was either a)Italian or b)Jewish. Way more of a) though. I liked West Caldwell the first few years I lived there, but I was just a kid. My personal tastes changed as I matured. I couldn't live there any more, but only because I don't really like built up, 70s era inner ring suburbs, which I consider West Caldwell to be. Now, Caldwell, on the other hand, I'd live in. That has infinitely more character. It's much older, has a dense downtown, etc. I could live in Caldwell.

Fairfield with lower taxes sound good so does the west caldwell area. I really like the suburbs. Quiet and easy to live (for me anyway). I just found Little Falls, Fairfield, Pine Brook, Totowa, and West Caldwell as good as distance goes....

Fairfield's taxes was $6,917 last year and Cedar Grove was $7,843. I definitely like the suburbs but accessible to highways...

Hi Jared,

I work in both counties, and values are slowly declining in both areas. Since you are under no particular pressure to buy, why not wait until you know if you will be transferring? You get two benefits: You get to live where you work, and possibly get a better deal.
