Hello, well, I seem to have found one, of course I don't have the money to rent a gun and buy the rounds/time to shoot yet, but. Always wanted to legally fire a gun.

What I am wondering is, is that how they do it? Come in, pay, shoot, leave ?

There are ranges all over NJ. You can rent or BYO. You go in, take a test, sign up for a time slot, you can get an instructor if you need, shoot, leave.

If you have never fired a gun before and this is your first time to a range.
I highly suggest you do not go alone, bring a knowledgeable friend or arrange to work with an instructor.

Ranges will not tolerate anything that is deemed unsafe in the handling of the guns.
A person walking in and not knowing how to load or starts pointing the gun the wrong way, will be flying a red flag fast.

Go in, talk to the people behind the counter, and then figure out the next steps. I doubt they're going to just offer a gun at a range to someone who had never shot one before. It's been years for me and I'd still want someone keeping an eye on me for a bit.

I think it depends on the range. I used to take my son to a range once in a while. They asked him a lot of questions about experience etc and then recommended the best gun based on that. This was an indoor range though, maybe outdoor ranges are different.

You should have no issues going to a range and renting a gun. This is the easiest way. If you don't own a gun, the process to get one is long.

As a poster above mentioned, bring a friend. Some ranges will not rent to single males who do not already own a gun. I guess the issue is suicide.

i went for the first time to some range near nashville, tennessee. it was pretty much heres your guns and have fun. i went with my older brother who had done it a couple of times before. if you have never fired a gun before, you should either go with a friend who has or get a quick lesson (like 5 minutes). it isnt rocket science, you only need a quick lesson for just shooting at a target.

You'll definitely want a lesson. Learning to shoot properly when you first start means you can avoid a lot of the common mistakes people make when they teach themselves or rely on someone who may not have the greatest training. Learn to do it right.

It'll surprise you how fast you run through ammunition. If you're saving up for this, plan on buying more than you think you'll use - like about five times more.

that reality flies in the face of the media who proclaim...'he had 500 rounds of ammunition, a veritable arsenal!"

That's like 2 hours at the range.
