Are all of them true?
If not, then which one/s is/are not true?
By what measure? Crime rate? Economy? School system?
I only know Asbury Park well of those listed, there are parts you should avoid, and parts that are beautiful.
I think there's a big difference between crime rates and the likelihood of getting mugged if I'm walking down the street minding my own business. What I mean is, alcohol is a big contributor to violence. Cities with a lot of bars are going to have higher crime rates. It doesn't mean they're unsafe towns.
But if you're going to believe crime stats like those found on city data, then I guess West Orange (a town frequently recommended here as a good place for families) is more dangerous than Union City.
I have lived in NJ all of my life -- I'd say the list has some validity; but like any area there is good and bad everywhere. I guess 'safe' is relative. Although not on the list, the town I live in is not highly thought of as a desirable place to live -- and although I can't totally disagree, I have walked alone (and see others do the same) at night without concern -- yet, maybe I would be a bit more cautious 6 or 7 blocks away. So to include the whole town as dangerous based on a small portion of it -- well maybe not. On the other hand, I grew up in one of the most affluent areas in NJ -- and at one time dated a cop for several years; the kinds of things that happened 'behind closed doors'...well, let's just say no town is without 'bad people'.

To be fair Union City isn't dangerous. Not really sure how it made this list while the rest of the northern Hudson county towns didn't. They are all fairly interchangeable. Weehawken and the parts of North Bergen right on the park are a bit nicer and they have different ratios above and below the cliffs but we're cutting hairs. Maybe some sort of statistical average that only Union City failed due to no frontage on River Road / Port Imperial / Boulevard East to bring the numbers up?
