What I mean by “bad” is the crime rate.

These are the towns that I hear many people say that are dangerous. I personally know 7 of them, however I’m not familiar with most of the urban towns. So I would just like to know if all of them are bad or if some of them are just horrible rumors.

I would say yes, and add Rahway to the list.

As for Jersey City, it should have an asterisk -- anything east of Marin Blvd. is relatively safe

Rahway? Interesting...
I have been there a couple of times to one of my friend’s dance recitals in the community center and I’ve always felt safe there, even when I used to go to the bars there late at night. I also don’t believe that I’ve ever heard of any major incidents in that town on the news or anywhere.

I haven't been to all of them, but the ones I've visited belong on the list.

I've stayed in hotels in Newark and Elizabeth flying in from Newark airport and although they are not exactly pretty, I never felt unsafe there. In retrospect, walking around there at night was probably not the best idea. In Chicago I felt uneasy, it has a pretty bad vibe all over the place except for downtown and a few other areas but I never felt uneasy in those cities in NJ although I probably should have.
