I have moved into a (very nice ) subsidized housing apartment property for the first time and one of the odder rules is I'm not allowed to go to school full time, although I am allowed to attend part time. When I asked why, I was told it was to prevent apartments turning into dorms. Whatever.

My question is, how will they know whether I am going full or part time? Unless I check a box, it's not going to show up in any of the financial records I will have to submit in a year, so not sure how they could tell. Anyone have experience with this?

Yeah sort of. The rule doesn't make sense to me. Plan B is to take one credit less than is considered full time status. I'm not stealing anything and because tuition is free for me, there is no monetary value involved.

There are different types of rental subsidies, PHA's, HUD etc. HUD subsidies have several subsections.
All of these subsidies have different qualifications, rules etc.
Just as you must provide annual paperwork to retain your rental subsidy you would be required to provide official transcripts from your school to prove your part time status.

The point of the rule is that they don’t want full time college students to be in subsidized housing. Traditional early 20s college students usually have no money, but aren’t in a situation where government housing assistance would be necessary.

I would imagine they have some kind of mechanism to check

Right but I’m in senior housing so I would think different rules would apply. Thanks all. I’ll figure it out. Just going part time solves the problem.

That is an odd rule for senior housing. You'll be fine. That's one of those types of rules that they can invoke if they find out college students are using it as a dorm. Just keep your business quiet and keep to yourself in case you have any snitches lol (always a good idea in apartments anyway) It's better to just to follow the rules of course but I don't think they have detectives checking on this stuff

HUD database may cross reference with the fafsa database or irs database which holds financial aid tax reporting forms specifying ft student status. Don’t know if they do it now or in the future but Why chance loosing your subsidized housing eligibility.
