.... At a Church in Jersey City, and another spot in Union City. Up to $250 per gun (?) and they SAY you can turn it in anonymously. I do not believe this.
I think (this as an aside to the buy-back) that this could double as a "sting" operation by the ATF, leading to people possibly being arrested for turning in a gun with a body on it (for those unfamiliar with the street lingo, that is a firearm that has been used in a crime, tied or linked to a homicide in which someone was killed.) Since I am not convinced one can truly go in "Anonymously" and expect to be paid, no questions asked. Dealing with guns? The one thing NJ hates? Oh my....
I wonder how many guns will get taken off the street, I suppose that is their goal, and how sales will book from the underworld in Newark, since that is where they end up for sale anyways.
Do you think the buy-back will yield good results?

I worked one in Jersey City years ago. 2 gun dealers from down south bought over 100 guns that were broken and inoperable. The city still bought them because it was no questions asked. This is mainly a feel good gesture that wastes money. I didn't see any gang members turning in guns.
It kills me when old ladies come and turn in guns when they have no idea of historical value or worth. Don't know if that happens in NJ, but it sure does in PA and NY. Sad.

Not only that, but if they are going to the government, they are getting destroyed. Shame.
Events like this are very common. You are being very paranoid.
LOL, you noticed that too? The OP watch's way to much Blue Bloods.
