Used to go to the malls but i've realized i'm sheltered and there a lot of people who I personally don't like to interact with. Specifically the types like that this story entails.

I don't see anything wrong with malls in NJ suburbs, but malls here are not perfectly safe, because my car got broken into in a safe mall near me. Nowhere is perfectly safe, but malls attracted car break ins. I don't see gang fights at safe malls like people stereotype malls.

You're right the nicer malls don't attract gangs but attract break-in's, like the Christmas Shopping murder at Short Hills a few years back for some guys Range Rover.
I'm not really buying the adults attacking children angle. 18 and 19 year olds smoking and talking smack in a parking lot don't bring to mind images of poor, innocent children. I think it's more along the lines of their mouths writing checks their butts couldn't cover.

Why would you assume that? Nobody has even made that claim.
It seems like the less likely of the two scenarios to me.
