When do you guys plan to throw down salt? I feel like if it's too early, the salt will be washed away by the rain/sleet, but too late and it won't be as effective. It'll snow tonight in NE NJ, but the heavy rain should (hopefully?) melt most of it tomorrow. The problem is the very quick transition from heavy rain to subzero temps... I'm thinking maybe shovel in the AM if it doesn't look like the rain will melt all the snow, then salt in the early afternoon:

NOAA Hourly Weather Forecast

Today
A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

Tonight
Snow before 1am, then freezing rain and sleet between 1am and 4am, then freezing rain after 4am. Low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. East wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday
Rain or freezing rain before 1pm, then a chance of freezing rain and sleet between 1pm and 4pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 22 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Northeast wind 10 to 17 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 6. Wind chill values between -10 and zero. Northwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

You want to leave a layer of Snow at the bottom. so when its Ice/Sleet later it does not attach to the surface.

When its "done" then plow the Top Snow, the Ice/Sleet and the bottom snow off.
If its Over 30f then salt .

Can a snow blower be used if it’s snow and then ice on top?

Throw the salt over your left shoulder.

Proven to appease the snow gods, guaranteed to kill plants, trees and shrubs and leads to salinization of our streams and rivers to the detriment of life.

I never use salt anywhere on my property. It makes a huge mess, tracks into the house, and ultimately does more harm than good. Waste of money.

Essex co cancelled the weather warning and changed it to an advisory. Seems we are getting mostly rain now. But the fact that it will freeze tomorrow concerns me.

So i guess the plan is to try and push as much water off my driveway/side walks as possible then ice melt or salt.
