What can I do about an abandoned car on my property? The owner left it with plates. I do not have the title so I can't sell it. I called a junk place and they want me to sign something saying I gave it to them. Called the owner numerous times. He just says he is "coming to get it". I am so mad, this has been going on for almost 5 months.

Call City Hall or the Police Department in the town you live in and raise a stink! They can tow it to an impound lot and the owner can pay to get it back. I wouldn't put up with that for 2 days.

Can you tell him you're going to start charging him a storage fee per day from the day you tell him until he gets the car? You might also call the town you are in and ask them what the town ordinances are (if they have any) regarding abandoned property that is on you property. You could also phone the non-emergency police line and ask. Finally, you could consult an attorney.

The car is essentially abandoned if you have asked him to get it and he refuses to come and get it.

Did you originally give him permission to park it on your property? If you did there might be more entanglements than just having the local police impound it.

He used to live with me. Technically, I never gave him permission to leave it there but he did it anyways. He moved out 5 months ago.

List it on free cycle for your county. An invite for anyone to come by and take the entire car or strip parts.

Bet the inspection sticker is over due.

You have the keys to it?

I'd have it towed to the Police station and dropped.

Call him and tell him the PD came over and advised if he doesnt remove it in say 5 days they are required to tow it at a mandatory $250 fee then $50 each day for storage until he brings in a valid up to date registration and insurance documents.
Many towns can do that and will. The owner would be liable.

Five months for a car you don't own? I'd definitely tell them the cops are coming to tow it.
