So I took my road test today in Newark and failed. Granted, I was too nervous and forgot to signal for parallel parking and k turn. But I was wondering if that would be enough to make you fail? I'm pretty sure I did perfect on the turn and parking otherwise. The lady who tested me was NASTY. I tried to take it slow, and she kept rushing me to speed up. When I did speed up a little, she said I was driving too fast. Then she failed my speed control. It's total crap. She got really impatient when I wanted to wait till a wider traffic gap to make a turn too, and failed my turns because "I struggled with turns". I literally waited for less than 20 seconds for a wider gap. I didn't turn into the wrong lane or anything, I took it easy and slowed down during turns but I honestly wasn't ridiculously slow.

Is the Newark MVC always like this? I scheduled another road test here but that was such a terrible experience I'm thinking about switching locations. Does anyone also know the scoring system of the NJ road test? Tried to search online but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Did you have driving school as a sponsor? I think they fail everyone who doens't have a driving school as a sponsor. I also failed my road test less than a week ago in Easthampton, but my next one I'll have a driving school with me, I was also adviced that we should change locations and I will.

OK. Here's a quick course on what not to do and will result in an immediate failure of the testing process.

On a serious note, don't they give you a list of what caused the failure? They did in the past.

Guys, this all sounds great. And also, if I have a nice examiner, would it pay to tell him or her that I'm nervous when he/she first gets in the car without him/her asking me if I'm nervous? And number 2, am I allowed to shuffle steer on the test or do I have to use hand over hand?

If you can, take the test in Rahway. Newark, from what I've heard, is very difficult to pass. Not so in Rahway.

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to take the time to respond to this and say that the woman at the Newark DMV for the road test mentioned here is still there (I'm pretty certain it's the same person) and she's still extremely rude and cruel. Apparently she's a supervisor, but they need to get rid of her quick. I was already nervous and she just sent my anxiety flying through the roof with her impatient, nasty commentary. Absolutely awful. I even took the time to submit a formal complaint because I felt I was treated that terribly.

For anyone else who's thinking of scheduling your road test at Newark, don't. Seriously avoid that place if you can.
