Many people in NJ try to position their children towards the oldest end of the class, even to the point of holding back summer babies. I have been in schools like this and it makes the youngest kid in the class seem even younger if that makes sense.
Not sure why you are looking for a late cutoff, but just thought I would mention it.
Towns generally have their own rules the same way NYC has different rules than Albany. So you'll want to be specific about towns. But if you can get specific about towns you should probably just call that town's school directly, you'll get the most accurate information that way.
^This. I'm not sure that in this day and age there are any towns around that have a date as late as November. I know there are a few that are earlier. I worked with a woman who had a kid born September 1, and the cutoff date for her town (Bayonne, I think) was August 31.
If your heart is set on getting your kid into school early, you might have to go to a private/parochial school and see if they'll take him or her at 4.
You gotta find a job that has backup care for like $10-50 a day, that allows you to take your kid to work with you and can watch them for a few months until school registration.
Generally speaking, NJ kids are older per grade than NY kids. It shows itself in youth sports, for instance, when the sport is organized by grade level and birthdate.
Years ago the cutoff for first grade was 5 years old by Jan 1.
Jan 1 is my birthday.
I just realized that I was only 4 years old when I started first grade!
No one 'redshirted' their kids.
And few went to kindergarten now that I think of it.
