I know this thread is old, but I am looking for land / hook ups / trailer type living in a rural-ish area, mostly looking Sussex county as it appears to be the only affordable, and heavily wooded area in jersey left. I want to raise my kids in a more simple way and build tree houses and ****, but still be able to shoot into an urban area occasionally.

I would also be commuting to the Newark area mon - fri for work. I see there are a few highway options. does anyone have ideas on the traffic coming to Newark from Sussex county in the AM hours? I have always ridden a bike to work, and never needed to drive. I am clueless. I am hoping for a commute no longer than an episode of radio lab, But if the living is sweet I wouldn't be against a longer drive due to traffic.

I am currently scouring the internets (how I came to this thread) for what the best ways to go about all this.

What was your end result? What did you learn? Can you share your experience?

Thank you.

My sister lives in Hamburg (in a townhouse) and drives to Paramus every day. It's about 45 minutes. Would be maybe 20 or so longer for Newark, I'm guessing.

Trailers, doublewides are not what they use to be some are pretty nice.I would look for a very small piece of land and put it on that,1/4 of an acre.

I don't know much about it, but there also appear to be some Mobile Home communities in Colonia and Avenel close to Rt 1, that's not far from Newark at all. Now, of course that isn't Sussex, but there is that quaint little bridge somewhere there that I believe bridges NJ to PA.. My memory may be failing me, only been on it a few times before I settled in the Philly area.

Sussex County, why do I want to say that Rt 78 goes straight through, my drives through the USA always had wonderful experiences on 78.

I would think pretty much anywhere either in Western NJ or most of the "08" zip code parts would be "cheaper" but just go to PA, it's "cheaper" (sorry NJ but that's why my whole family either got out already or is going to at some point if things do not turn themselves around: Affordability, or lack thereof. Let's see how 2017 goes, Christmas came on November 9th for us.)

Even Atlantic City in between the Casinos, if there are any left, is supposedly not as costly as AC itself is run-down except for around the Casinos, kinda like Las Vegas.

There are mobile home communities in Hazlet and Keyport (or maybe Keansburg?) Close to the shore, but that is different from the mountains and woods of Sussex County.

My favorite mobile home community is the one just before the Goethals Bridge on Staten Island--yup, a genuine trailer park within the limits if New York City.
