Looking for some info from parents who has/had their kids in PS16 in downtown jersey city. We are in the PS16 school boundary but when we called the school they told us there is some sort of lottery system to get in. But the person was very impatient and refuse to explain how this works or for which grade.
Does anyone have firsthand knowledge how the admission to PS16 works for K and 1st Grade+, is there a lottery to get in for all the grades and how does the lottery work.
I just heard about this--- All current pre-k4 students zoned for PS 16 have an automatic spot in K. There will be 27 open K spots after that---kids with an older sibling get priority. After that, the available spots are a lottery. The kids that don't get in by lottery will be bussed to another school for K, just like how they Bus the pre-k kids now. PS 16 is super overcrowded now, so they have to take extreme measures. It's the best ES in JS though, and apartment buildings keep being built, which adds to the overcrowding (also, it's a small building with small capacity).
