I would like to be a teacher one day. Before I decide if this is for me I would like to get a provisional license.

What are the limits?

Am I able to teach the classes I want to?

Would I only become a student teacher or teacher’s aide?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Try this Rutgers site. If this doesn't answer your questions than try contacting Rutgers.

You can't just decide that you want to be a teacher one day and think you can teach any subject you feel like teaching.

Call the NJ State Dept of Education, if the website didn't help you.

Look in to the Alternate Route program.

Good luck!

In the state of NJ you will not be able to teach in a public school classroom without the appropriate degree in the subject area. To teach history, you need a degree in history; to teach math you need a degree in math, etc, etc.
You cannot teach whatever you want in the classroom. The specific curriculum for the courses must be followed to promote testing uniformity.
Student teaching in NJ is now a full year of the aspiring teachers time in a classroom under the guidance of a master teacher. You do not get paid to teach, in fact, you pay your college for the privilege of being a student teacher. My advice is try a private or parochial school. They sometimes hire unlicensed teachers. Or try teaching in a state other than NJ. I am a recently retired NJ high school teacher. I hope this helps answer your questions.

What are the limits?

A provisional certificate is when a certificate of eligibility CE or certificate of eligibility with advanced standing CEAS is activated during the first year of teaching in which a mentor is assigned to a novice teacher, and a teacher has yet to be evaluated under TEACHNJ - it is only given to someone who has first met the requirements of getting a teaching certificate in NJ

Am I able to teach the classes I want to?

You may teach what you have a certificate to teach

Would I only become a student teacher or teacher’s aide?
Student teaching is a process to become certified as a teacher. An aide is a non-certificated position that you can obtain at any time with typically nothing more than a HS diploma
Good luck with the process
