I can't even believe I have to ask this question. I grew up in Jersey! But it's been a while since I lived there. Might have a job opportunity in Montville, and I love really artsy, creative towns like Montclair. I might just live in Montclair, but I wonder if there's anything similar (what's Morristown like these days?)

Thanks - looking forward to great Italian food once again.

Greetings Scorp!

Depending on how long you've been away, brace yourself for a radically different Montville. Over the past thirty years, Montville has evolved from an old country river and farm town to an upscale suburbia. The median home price in Montville is presently around $675,000.

But to more specifically address your question, believe it or not, the Town of Boonton has a growing arts community. Due to the town's increasing popularity, in part because of the quick train trip to the City, Boonton is experiencing a nice revival. The section of town known as Boonton Park is chock-full of beautiful older homes with a sprinkling of new construction mixed in.

It's certainly no Montclair, but worth checking out. And on a very bright side, nor does it share Montclair's burdensome housing cost and property taxes. For comparable homes, you'll probably pay at least a third less in Boonton than in Montclair, probably half ... and the taxes will likely be less than half too. Though very nice bread-and-butter homes can still be had in Boonton for well under half a million, the town is surrounded by pricey communities.

Hope this helps, Maverick

That sounds like Boonton Borough not Township. I too think it's coming along...after all, episodes of the Soprano's were filmed there several times : ))

Wonderful! I always really liked Boonton and that would be perfect. Except for the fact that my ex-boyfriend lives there. But hey, you can't have everything (with my luck I'll move next to him). :-P

Yes, the municipality that some refer to as Boonton Borough is actually the "Town of Boonton." This is easily confused with neighboring Boonton Township, the latter being an example of very affluent suburbia.

My recommendation is of the former ... the town, not the township. Thanks for pointing this out without pumping me full of lead!

LOL - It does get confusing : ) It is a very cute town... as long as you don't have to drive down main street... white knuckle adventure!

Montclair is a wonderful place. I am more familiar with Maplewood/South Orange is a great area; with a lot of artsy people. Not sure the commute to Montvale.

Montville/Montvale
Clifton/Clinton
Washington Township/Borough/whatever else

LOL...don't forget

Westwood/Westfield
Garwood/Garfield
Bloomfield/Bloomindale
Union/Union Twp.
Morristown/Moorestown
and the 10 or so Washington Twps. (I think there is one in every county)

I believe I read somewhere that the name Ho Ho Kus was changed by the post office years ago to Ho-Ho-Kus (adding the dashes) because mail kept accidentally going to Hoboken.
