Since when? I remember a couple years ago I had to renew in person because my photo was too old and they had to take a new one. Is that no longer an issue? I also had heard that they were going to start making the expiration date on your birthday to avoid everyone flocking to the DMV at the end of the month. Did that ever go into effect?

Yeah the expiration is your birthday now.

Is that real ID even necessary? A gold star? Please tell me it’s special in some other way.

Doubtful....

It means that you got an A on your spelling test.

It's special in that you will need to provide 6 different forms of ID to get one.

I understand the benefit from a security standpoint, at least until the bogus license operations figure out how to add that gold star.

If you’re not flying on an airplane, you don’t need it and if you are flying and have a passport, you don’t need it.

Last time I renewed by mail. This time they're requiring me to come in person. It's been about ten years since I first got a New Jersey license. I'm guessing they want a new picture.

I'm just not interested in taking my passport on every trip I take, it's worth the $11.

Of course I think there's 4th Amendment issues and so forth, but that's a different conversation.
