Hi, first time poster, moving to Livingston in a month. I was only recently accepted into law school (didn't even know we were going to NJ until a couple months ago), and we only just got a house nailed down in Livingston, in what I thought was a great district that's close to my school as well as offering pretty good public schools for our 4 year old son. Our son just completed Pre-K in NYC, and I was calling around to enroll him in Kindergarten when I discovered that I appear to have made a mistake, and his birthday is past the Oct. 1 cut-off date (by just a few days!) for kindergarteners/1st graders in Livingston. (I'm kicking myself extra hard over this, because the house we got literally has Harrison Elementary right through our backyard!)

We don't really want to make him repeat Pre-K if we don't have to, and his teacher said he was definitely ready to move up, so I'm looking for any private programs in the area that admit kids to kindergarten/1st grade past the cut-off date. Does anyone know of any?

Failing that, what are some of the best Pre-K programs in the area? He went to the Learning Experience down in Virginia a couple years ago and we had a good experience with them, so I was thinking about their Pre-K, but are there any others/better ones around I should look into? I know it's late in the summer to be doing this, but I can at least call to check.

If you decide on Pre-K, both of my kids went to Playhouse in West Orange and we were all very happy with it. If they have spots open it's not too late to register.

Thanks, looking into it! Their transitional kindergarten class looks pretty good. A bit further than we were hoping for, but at least it's on the way to school for me, too.
