If you were leaving NJ, which one would you pick? Or just which one do you like more? Hell, even if you wanted to stay in NJ, which city's NJ suburbs would you live?

If housing cost is the major consideration, then it would have to be Philly, without question. Rental costs tend to be considerably lower there, and even restaurants are usually cheaper in Philly.

On my current salary, I'd pick Philly.
If money is no object, NYC.

Jersey City was a good compromise to get NYC flavor and access at a lower price point. Still more expensive than Philly, though.

Probably Philly since I don’t mind dodging a few bullets every now and then.. I actually need the exercise.

However, I refuse to voluntarily get ripped off spend $2k a month on a closet in NYC.

+1
My nephew used to live in JC, and by moving to Philly, he was able to lower his housing costs fairly significantly.
And, since his business allows him to work from home, moving from JC to Philly did not produce any problems with his work.

I have lived both places, most recently Philly. You can't compare NYC housing costs to anywhere else in the country except San Francisco.

Rents in Philly are lower but they're not dirt cheap like everyone assumes, unless you live in the hood. Restaurants are about the same.

If I were leaving NJ I wouldn't stay in the area. I live here because NYC is where my industry is centered. I'd never move near Philadelphia there's nothing down there that's nearly as interesting.

I would never want to live in NYC unless someone had a "gun to my head",,, when I worked there the best feeling was always with NYC in the background and you're "Back in America".

I grew up in NYC and would move in a heartbeat if I win the lottery. In the meantime, I am a short train ride away and am there all the time .

If money was no issue: A penthouse in the Upper West Side.

In my current Occupation: Probably Somewhere in Brooklyn or Queens or Jersey City/Hoboken

No thanks for Philly though. I am not good at dodging bullets.
