Hi first time buyer in NJ. At closing in NJ are the closing funds typically sent to the title agency?

Yes but if you received instructions by email to wire funds to a title agency, make sure you call the title agency directly and get a verbal confirmation of the wire details. There’s been a lot of fraud going on with criminals hacking title agency emails.

Thanks. Also is there a website to check if a title company is properly licensed?

This is pretty spot on. Your real estate lawyer should be detailing this for you.

Even better, usually the lawyer has a paralegal on staff who does all the work and knows all the answers to those questions.
