I need to get health insurance for my family while we are in the probationary period with my new company. Does anyone have any info regarding this to share with me? My daughter is only 2 months old, so she will need to go for regular checkups. Other than that, we have no health problems. Looking for a reasonable monthly rate.

Right now we have Health America, but since we left this job, we need to get on a new plan.

I'm afraid I don't have good news for you. Individual polies in NJ are VERY expensive.... here's the link to NJ approved policy providers in this state. It's a bit cryptic but that's NJ 4U

Can't you cobra with your previous policy? Pay the premium through your previous company or is that a Jersey thing only? I would cover you and hubby for major only for now and consider same for the wee one - is it only 90 days waiting period before the new policy starts?

COBRA is a federal law.

Using COBRA, we would have to pay about $650/month. I was hoping there might be some cheaper options.

Thanks for the info though! We might use Geisinger Choice and just make the trip back to NEPA for doctor visits. ~$350/month

All depends on what the $350 plan covers as opposed to your employers old plan...makes sense paying the $650 if you're going to have to cough up a lot more per visit, per prescription etc.

This is sad. I mean, you may be able to afford it, but for those who can't and don't necessarily quality for Medicaid or whatever.....I think it's insane that health insurance cost this much money, and as you mentioned, lord knows it will be insanely crazy if you need a prescription filled. Something has got to give. This is grazy.
