Well, it's "okay". That particular street has luxury high rise apartments that aren't terribly expensive. It's a nice area.
The school system in Hackensack is not as good as the surrounding towns but it's better than a good school system in a state where schools are generally bad (such as Arizona.)
Would renting for a year be an option? That way you can explore all of the towns before deciding on one?
Could, for instance, renting in Paramus where schools are really good be an option while you explore other towns and cities?
Oradell and River Edge are good options. I'd also say Emerson is another good option. Most of the towns in Bergen County are good. You can't go wrong!
If Ridgewood is in your budget, I'd definitely recommend it.
Yes, all those ideas are on the table. We are going to rent for a year...you all have convinced me! Now, just where to rent. So much help here, thank you! Hadn’t even considered Ridgewood; I had assumed I couldn’t swing that.
Hi Diamond. We recently moved to Fair Lawn from the Bronx and we are happy with the decision so far. We are a multiracial family and diversity is something that is very important to us. For a small town in NJ, I find that there is a decent amount of diversity. As far as arts and an actual downtown area, Fair Lawn is lacking, but I do not feel isolated and removed like I thought I would when we moved there.
Thank you so much for responding! Glad to hear from someone who is also new to the area and is having a good experience thus far. Do you have small children?

I'm glad that you've decided to rent for a year. You really need to visit these towns and choose one which feels right. There are good schools, nice shops, houses in many towns, but you won't know which one fits until you try it on.

You're welcome! My daughter is 11, but I honestly wish we had moved there much sooner. There are so many activities for kids. It really is a great town. Good luck!
