Hi
I plan to move to Edison NJ from India in a few weeks. My wife has got an admit at NYU ( close to 4th Street/ Washington Square). I gather that the commute from NYU to Edison would take just over an hour ( using MTA within NY and NJ transit from New York Penn Station to Edison).

I have two questions:
1. Is my assumption of travel time correct ? If not, how long would it typically take for this commute?
2. How safe are these trains for travelling at about 9 to 10:30 pm. Most of the times, my wifes classes would go on till 8:30 pm or 9:30 pm. Would it be safe for her to commute this distance at the said hour.

I appreciate your time in answering these two questions for me.

Thanks
Ganesh

You're going to be closer to 1.5 hours. Just getting from Edison to Penn Station is around an hour, and then you've got to get to NYU. Now add in the time getting to/from the train station.

I don't know how the Edison station is late at night... i know my friend drives up from the shore to Metro Park in Iselin when she takes the train b/c she feels there are more people around later at night.

Is there a particular reason you are moving to Edison? Commuting so far while in college can become a huge pain really fast, especially late at night when your tired. I'm guessing it's because of the Indian community in Edison(I'm Indian too).

Guyinnj,
I work at East Brunswick and hence wanted to move to Edison. Is there a place which is mid way between NYU and East Brunswick with a similar living standard and ease like Edison ??

Thanks

This depends on how much of a commute your willing to make to East Brunswick. Depending on what your budget is there are plenty of nice places in between. Are you planning on buying/renting a house or an apartment?

That price range will get a you a nice apartment in 85% of Northern New Jersey. You could basically live in almost any town. Just do an apartment search online in Northern NJ and you'll get plenty of results. What exactly do you mean by standard of living and ease exactly?
