Is East Orange going to merge with Glen Ridge like someone sarcastically suggested? No, but there are other more compatible towns who would theoretically benefit from merging with other towns. Let’s just see how it all plays out.
Again, it’s never going to happen if we only allow “compatible” towns to merge. It would be a political firestorm and advocates for the “incompatible” towns would post immediate, super complicated, lengthy and, IMHO, highly justified legal challenges.

BTW, it’s been tried by some towns to pull out of regional agreements and attend school districts in more “compatible” towns, and they were always shut down by the state, primarily due to the racial and financial imbalances it would cause schools. One case that comes to mind is North Haledon trying to pull out of its agreement with Manchester Regional to have its students attend Midland Park High School instead. Maywood has been trying to pull out of its agreement with Hackensack High School for eons as well.

The state basically told them they lost their minds.

LOL, BS. It's been talked about before and it got shut down before and it's not going to happen.

I can’t imagine East Orange caring if Glen Ridge merges with Montclair.

What does that have to do with diversity?

Like towns should be free to merge, people should be free to date/marry whatever consenting person they wish to.

Why would Glen Ridge consent to that?

Their citizens want to live in Glen Ridge not East Orange.

I'm in support of cutting my town in five parts, merging the largest part with Orange, then splitting the other four between Essex Fells, Livingston, Roseland, and Millburn. But mostly for the lulz.

Seriously, the idea that you're going to save enormous money with these consolidations is silly. My town of West Orange is bigger than the other towns around it.... and has a more wasteful government and school district and higher taxes.

Ok so the solution here is simple. When West Orange merges with whoever and positions get eliminated, make sure none of the West Orange politicians and administrators remain.

These old guard liberals perpetuate this problem with the “never gonna happen” nonsense. These are the same people that cant seem to pump their own gas, cant seem to let ppl smoke weed. That virtue signal social justice for everyone yet hardly practice it in their own lives. Cant seem to let their kids go to school with any other people that don’t look like themselves. the same ppl that throw off pollsters by saying they’ll vote one way and vote another in the both. The same freakin people that want all the consolidation and cuts except for themselves and their own towns. Its very shameful

Of course it's never going to happen. People in this state obsess over school districts to no end. Just look at some of the posts on this forum. There are people that not only want the best town, they want the best neighborhood in the best town, and they are willing to blow their entire budget on that. Everyone claims they support diversity, as long as it's other people's kids that are going to those diverse schools.
