Hi,

My fiancee and I currently live in Queens but we will probably need to move to New Jersey in a few months because she is taking a new job in Matawan, NJ.

My job is in lower Manhattan, and I don't drive. So we need to find a good spot to live in New Jersey where I can commute by train to Manhattan and she can commute by car to Matawan. Ideally I would like an area where walking to the train is a viable option because I really don't want to have to get a car myself. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
mwgnyc

Matawan is on the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast line, so any of the towns on that line would be good to check out.

To keep your NYC-commute reasonable, I'd look at Woodbridge, Avenel, and Rahway. I am not that familiar with Woodbridge/Avenel (from what I have seen they look nice) but I know you can find a place within easy walking distance to the train station in Rahway.

There are quite a few single-family homes in Rahway, plus a lot of new development that's going on downtown right near the train station:

Park Square Online

Good luck in your search!
