In Northern NJ where it is more progressive, I don't think a black family would have any issues living in a majority non-black town and would accepted like anyone else. In Republican-leaning Monmouth county, I'm not so sure that would apply. Pretty much any town in Bergen north of 4 would be a good fit. In Essex, I'd recommend Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove, and Verona. There's Springfield in Union county which is also nice.
If recent events have shown us anything, it’s that liberals are just as racist as conservatives/Republicans. Most aren’t; some are. Holds true for any large group of people. I’ve heard many times throughout my life that the “racist South” is actually more welcoming and accepting of blacks than the progressive North.
Thank you for causing me to really laugh for the first time today. It's 9:45 and I was running out of time.
When I lived in Marlton, I -- oh my God -- had black neighbors. It's not Petticoat Junction.
To be fair, that post was addressing Monmouth County. Marlton/Burlington County/South Jersey was never mentioned and is irrelevant here, as OP commutes to Manhattan. I think that post was to suggest that northeastern NJ towns in Bergen/Essex/Union County etc would be more welcoming of blacks than Monmouth County, which I think is a somewhat fair assumption. It should not be too much of a surprise that there are probably more anti-black racists hanging around Monmouth County than in northeastern NJ, and for that matter, the well-off Philly suburbs like Marlton as well.

LOL, but you recommend Republican-leaning Bergen County?
I live in Monmouth County. My next-door neighbors are black. They grew up around here. Lots of middle-class black people did, in part because of the military presence at Fort Monmouth. It sounds as if you are thinking of the wealthy towns like Rumson but not Tinton Falls or Red Bank that have long had a black presence. Ever hear of a guy named Count Basie?
