Can anyone tell me what the surrounding area of this address is like - is it average city or is it a scary area to be in? Thanks

Scary.
If there one street name that evokes "bad neighborhood" in Paterson, it is Straight Street.
As a matter of fact, it is where the original Straight & Narrow rehab facility is located (run by Catholic Charities), a well-known rehab that goes back more than fifty years. From their own website:

We operate in those areas ravaged by crime, unemployment, squalor, disease, addiction and urban neglect. Although I can't comment on that particular street, my GF actually works 2 blocks from there and there's a big mall and Planet Fitness there. It's downtown Paterson. I've been in the area many times.
There was a news story about Paterson recently that said the area of Rosa Parks Blvd. and Godwin Avenue is a hot spot for shootings in the city. So I guess you could use that as a reference point...
