Absolutely!
We have more than enough in the coffers to fund that project!
If we can afford to conquer third world countries in a month, we can build a spaceport. At least less people will die, we gain scientific knowledge and could mine space.

So, instead of "Why isn't NJ more involved in space?", your post should actually have been titled something along the lines of... Should the Federal government fund the construction of a spaceport off the coast of NJ?
Or, did you think that NJ has been in the habit of "conquering Third World countries"?
And, yes, fewer people would die.
I think that you need to revise the title of your thread.

NASA and space exploration is a luxury. A luxury that should be put on the back burner when we have soaring rates of homelessness, lack of proper care for veterans, crumbling infrastructure and a broken healthcare system.
Can we build a spaceport off the coast of NJ? Build it on that empty airfield in AC.
No because Northeast weather is not suitable for launches. That's why launchpads are all in hot climates where year around they can launch rockets.
