Hi, I'm thinking of buying a single-family house in Forest Hills area of Newark. Does anyone have experience (first or second hand) living in that area regarding crime, taking a bus to Newark-Penn Station, etc.? I'm a 50+ yo white guy with an Asian wife, no kids moving from Jersey City. Thanks in advance for your comments!

Personally, I love that area. I do not think safety is relative. Then again, caution is always necessary regardless where you live. Case in point, in NYC crime and gun related violence is increasing as of late; yet the property value is crazy even with the latest declined levels. I used to work in the Washington Park area 17 years ago; and the city has changed for the better in ways many people could have not imagined. If I could, I would go for it as I see great potential despite these rough times (Covid-19 and political **** show).

I knew a couple who lived in Forest Hill over 20 years ago, and they loved it. Now that Newark's crime rate has declined significantly, that neighborhood shouldn't be problematic for the OP.
