The only hotel I can think of near the beach in Long Branch is Ocean Place Resort. As a matter of fact, that's the only hotel at all I can think of in Long Branch. Lots of condos there, and they are building more. Long Branch is my beach because it's only fifteen minutes away and you tend not to get the hordes in summer that you get further down around Belmar, Point Pleasant, Seaside, etc.

The ocean part of the coast doesn't begin until Sandy Hook, and you've got a whole lotta Jersey north of that. The northern part of New Jersey has the Hudson River as the border rather than the ocean.

But, you're from Philly and not Jersey so you can be forgiven for not knowing our geography!

The $20 roundtrip for the bus sounds like a deal as far as transportation goes. However, check further and see what is going on in Atlantic City. I'm just thinking that with the casinos closed, it might feel a bit deserted. I really don't know, though.

Day trips do sound like a more budget-friendly choice. If you can incorporate reading or listening to a podcast into the traveling part, the journey itself can be interesting.
Sorry! I'll message you my question.

I don't gamble, while I'm not Muslim anymore, I still hold onto not gambling and drinking. I just want to go to the beach and swim. I love the water. I'll get my mixed CDs together and reading materials.

Next summer I want to check out Point Pleasant. I've never been there and it looks interesting.

Bite your tongue! You and I both live in Central Jersey!

OP, you could try checking out buses to Spring Lake, or Sea Girt. A little further maybe but more friendly and less depressing than Atlantic City and no gambling . Not really a day trip though. Nice boardwalk, beaches are awesome.

I LOVE Spring Lake, although I haven't been there in 8 years. I had a friend in college who drove and in 2012, we took a day trip to Spring Lake. It was so nice and it was fun. It was my first time further north. I would pass Spring Lake every time I go to Asbury Park on the bus.

I still live with my folks and I'm getting out of debt, which is why I was thinking some day trips. Mom is threatening to look at my finances next month. I'm going to tell her "no." Maybe I will look into Spring Lake... maybe an overnighter? One night might not be too expensive.

No, I didn't think about you gambling. I just wondered because the part of A.C. that is not casinos is pretty slummy if there is more of that on the boardwalk and beach now. I was thinking about safety.

I have nothing to base that on but my own supposition, though.

I know what you mean. I love the water, too. Ocean, lake, or river, I'll go in.

Central jersey is a myth! Your hear me! A myth!

What sports teams would such a place follow? Would they eat taylor ham or pork roll? Its all lies created by the mainstream media and a left wing antifa agenda!

No, I'm kosher, so I don't eat pork either. Before I went kosher five years ago, I ate pork roll. But now I eat kosher beef or turkey lunch meats.

Hmmm, I usually go to the beach by Tropicana and I assumed that the beach was opened. I'll have to look now because if it's not, yeah, you're right... it is slummy.

If it isn't, I might have to find somewhere else to go that is easily accessible for a day trip. Governor Tom Wolf isn't opening public pools for a while.

jess, here you go:

ATLANTIC COUNTY
Atlantic City:

The beaches and boardwalk remain open and will continue to do so as long as individuals practice social distancing.

Beach badges are not required for entrance to any Atlantic City beaches.
