Picked up a new car from Staten Island NY they transferred my NJ plates from my old car to the new one provided me with a temporary registration (they are processing the new registration ) and now I need to get the car inspected. I also have temporary insurance
Question:
Do I need to get the NJ registration before I go for the inspection?

Never had a car that required NJ inspection sticker and first car I acquired out of state. Also with the State Inspection stations closed at the moment but should open up I believe on the 29th

I believe state inspections are postponed and extended until they get ramped up again, and its been months.

NJ state inspections for non-commercial vehicles are usually just emissions and paperwork. Usually if your Check Engine (OBD-2) light is not lit it passes. Commercial vehicles such as vans get more checks such as tires, etc.

Maybe 30 or so years ago there was a bad winter where PA suspended inspections, I got a ticket in NY but when I went to court the judge dismissed it saying they only have jurisdiction on NY inspections. Many loopholes.

And yes they usually want to see the NJ registration and insurance and your DL at the inspection station. Usually the more rural ones have none or little lines while urban ones you may have to wait. NJ has online cameras of the wait lines.

NJ also has private inspections usually at gas stations/mechanic shops as posted but most people try to save the fee maybe $75 by hitting the State ones.
