Hi,

I'm relocating from California to Essex County in New Jersey. I'm looking for an 1-bedroom apartment in Montclair/Bloomfield area.

I plan to rent an apartment in the area with an estimated move-in date around end of July/early August.

Given this time frame, does anyone have a sense of when would be a good time for me to start calling apartments to schedule a visit? Because it is recommended to make a flight reservation two weeks prior, this information would help me schedule my trip. I'm thinking of visiting NJ at the end of June. Would this be a good time to look for an apartment, which will be available for end of July/early august?

Thank you so much for your input!

I would call a few apartment complexes prior to your trip to ensure they have availablility. I would start looking now, just to ensure you have a place available for the months in question.

You should be fine if you are coming here in June. There are plenty of apartment complexes and houses that rent out floors in that area. Just be mindful of the fact that there are shady areas in both of those towns. Lower Montclair and Bloomfield near the East Orange border are the two spots to avoid. But don't let that scare you both are nice towns, Montclair has more culture and some really eclectic restaurants. good luck.

What price range are you looking in? There are quite a few rentals in both towns.

I'm looking at the range of $900 -$1200, within the 5 miles radius from Montclair State University, assigned parking, clean, safe, and quiet. Am I asking for too much?

No, you should find something. You might also consider Cedar Grove. There's a few nice complexes, one called Cedar Grove Gardens. They have a manager and garages for each apt. Also look into the Upper Montclair area which is closer to the university. As for Bloomfield, not as many rentals on the north side of town which is near the school. Clifton and Little Falls are also close by; less than 5 miles.

This might not be a what you were asking but...can I ask why you are moving to New Jersey? Is it for a job that pays ALLOT more then the one you have now? Otherwise, depending on where in California you live, I could give you a thousand reasons why not to move to Jersey.
