We all know that the MVC has extended the expiration for vehicle registration and inspection.

My neighbor was pulled over in New York (Westchester, to be more precise). He had renewed his reg online and has the receipt printout, just hadn't gotten the card in the mail yet. Anyway, he tells me, he showed the cop his printout and explained about the extensions due to the COVID. The cop still gave him a ticket! To add insult to injury, the cop threatened to tow and impound his car! He didn't, but gave him tickets - unregistered vehicle, expired sticker.

Apparently, the other states are not recognizing NJ's extension on motor vehicles. Either that or the cop was being an ***hole! Now I don't even want to drive outside of NJ!

Defund the police! Is this what we want from those who are to serve and protect?

No, that just isn't possible.
Didn't you know that all of our boys in blue are... honest... and upstanding... civil servants... and none of them engage in arbitrary and capricious decisions designed solely to increase their ticket quota?

<sarcasm intentional>

That cop was just an A-hole, or under pressure to replenish state and municipal coffers. I can’t believe what a jerk he was, considering the guy had proof he renewed before it expired!

It’s annoying and wrong, but try calling the court and explaining to them. Worst case you show up and have it thrown out. I doubt the judge will find you guilty. Maybe also give a polite call to the police department and relay your experience, once the ticket is resolved. Especially if it is thrown out. It only wastes the town money when false tickets are handed out.

I had a similar situation maybe 20 or 30 years ago, had a car registered in PA, bad winter weather so PA extended registrations and inspections. Got a ticket in NY for that. Went to court, judge threw it out.
Judge even stated they have NO jurisdiction on out of state inspections, only NY ones.

Its a money grab since they figure most people wont bother to go a state or two over to fight it.
Cops will act dumb just to write their quotas. Any honest judge will throw it out and apologize for yor hassle.
