Say goodbye to your privacy. How can the police force you to give up your passcode?

CaptainNJ should be all over this case.

On a side note: former cop should not have been stupid enough to put the evidence on his phone.

Nothing new. The Constitution is no longer worth the paper it's printed on. We have a president who totally ignores the Constitution, and gets away with it. We have police who totally ignore the Constitution and get away with it. Ultimately the case will have to be appealed the SCOTUS. But I would be shocked if the SCOTUS doesn't agree with the New Jersey court. The judges are appointed by politicians who hate the Constitution. This is no longer the free country that people think it is.

it doesnt specify how it would force people to do it. how do they know you didnt forget your password? these encrypted phones are awesome, the cops hate them. even if they can force you, you still have the option. i know that they will violate our rights at will (just like they did chelsea manning by locking her up to force her to testify) so we should never trust government one tiny bit.

i dont think cops should have that protection. cut his fingers off until he provides the password. just kidding maybe.

The Supreme Court has already ruled the private data of the citizen belongs to the person and no law enforcement branch can force the person to give up their privacy. This is what caused then FBI Director Comey to voice opposition to the ruling.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled otherwise; this might go to SCOTUS.

You may feel differently, but I have no desire to fight for liberty in that small island nation.
