Technically speaking, if one were to continue the line from the arc of Wilmington due east to the coast, it would dissect South Jersey at Oldmans Creek... or in more general terms - at the Salem/Gloucester County border.

That's why many people attest that the far southern portions of NJ fall below the Mason-Dixon line... it was simply never extended because those lands across the Delaware River were never in dispute and subsequently did not need surveying. While historically, the M-D line ended at either Delaware or the Delaware River (depending on who one speaks to), the only reason it ends in such a place was because the original survey was done merely to establish the boundary between the Quaker Colony and Carteret's Catholic Colony.. when surveyed, it was never meant to be the dividing line between north and south.

Either way... it doesn't matter which way one cuts it, the southernmost counties of NJ fall south of that line.

Don't worry there ShannyBannany... Cherry Hill falls well north of Oldmans Creek. Frankly... these days, I don't really count Cherry Hill as part South Jersey anymore. The only similarity it shares with the southernmost counties is that it falls south of Trenton. If anything, it's nothing but a suburb of Philadelphia...

South Jersey isn't that far from Virginia, and even though it's above the M-D line, I have no doubts that there were some Southern supporters there. But it doesn't even matter now, that was almost 150 years ago.

What??

It's fairly difficult to "compete" when one can't even articulate their argument... Even more so when one attempts to make such a highly subjective argument despite a probable dearth of any actual experience.

Either way... I wouldn't necessarily let Hackensack know you "rep" them.

True statement apvbguy, good catch. The line was intended to bisect the Delmarva peninsula after intersecting the 12 mile radius circle around New Castle Delaware.

I was raised in NJ and have lived in florida for almost 20 years- there is a difference between Southern Rednecks and NJ Pineys.

I grew up in the Southampton/Vincentown Area- so I had heavy exposure to the NJ version of "Country Folk."

Compared to Florida Rednecks, NJ Rednecks/Pineys have alot more class......
