Hi,

Does anyone commute from the Succasanna area of New Jersey to Staten Island? I was wondering how long the commute is at different times in the morning to decide if it's decent enough to consider moving there.

it would be an absurd commute, AMs would be better than PMs but it could be anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on weather and traffic

your best bet is 206S to 78E to the Tkpe to the Goethals. 206S and 78 shouldn't be too bad, it's the Tkpe and Goethals that would concern me. Where on SI would you be working because that could be a major time hog as well.

I'd say average commute, assuming you are not too far from the Goethals would be 75 minutes.

Personally, I wouldn't do it b/c of the time, higher than average probability of big jams, and the expense of the Tkpe and bridge tolls.

I agree with tahiti. I don't think it's a great idea. The unreliability of the Goethals Bridge would be terribly frustrating. Furthermore, if you work in say, "Downtown" Staten Island (near the ferry terminal), getting ONTO Staten Island is only half the battle. There's a war you have to fight to get across the island.

it's a distance away from the Goethals.

Would leaving at 6 instead of 7 make a big difference?

a big difference? it'll help some, but assuming you need to take 278 towards the Verrazano during the SI portion of that ride is going to be horrible. you'll hit it around 7:15am -vs- 8:15am - it's going to stink no matter how you slice it.

The run up to traffic on the Verranzano usually starts at the Bradley Ave exit, about 4 miles to the west. It really sucks.
