I like that idea! We should tax the crap out of stuff like this...fast food, cigs, beer, booze..everything that is truly a luxury and lower taxes on gas as it's a necessity here in NJ. Or offer up some more public transportation options..more buses, trains, etc.

The Fast Food tax will hit the lower income people more as that is where they take their kids for a night out..and does it stop there..pizza parlors..chinese take out
Don't think it would happen but they have all lost it in Trenton

but it's also the lower income people who lack health insurance - they can't afford to pay for hospital visits so perhaps if they are forced to eat better, this will save us all a ****load of money!
Unfortunately Codey is right. It would be a tax that hurt the poor the most. Granted, many of those kids are the ones who end up being the obese adolescents that eventually become obese, diabetic, heart diseased adults, but in this economy how much more can the working poor take? If you're paying exorbitantly high rent, working two menial jobs, and you have kids, the price of gasoline is probably taking a lot out of you already, not to mention what a fast food tax would do to you. How about taxing Whole Foods and Wegmans since the yuppies that shop there have the money to cover it?

You can not be poor and eat healthy in this country..that's an oxymoron
have you seen the price of fresh fruit & veggies..when I check out at the supermarket I honestly don't know how people with kids afford to feed them

Sure you can. It's called a garden and a 12 gauge I'd rather my kids eat venison over factory farmed beef any day. It's true what Hank Jr. says, "A country boy CAN survive."

That's crazy! You can eat healthy for the same if not less money! A head of lettuce vs. a bag of greasy chips! Trust me, I'm speaking from experience... I have a sister who has lived off the system since she dropped out of HS over 30 years ago! I take her shopping with her food stamps and all she buys is CRAP! It's foolish to say eating crap is cheaper than eating healthy! How about buying some seeds and starting your own garden..oh that's right, that would mean having to work! Poor = lazy...lazy = poor!

actually I think it's reverse.
The lower income people get medicaid/medicare/charity care - who knows. But they're taken care of.
It's those people who are self-employed and those who pay their own helath insurance who can't afford to get sick.
Only in a Socialist Government the answer to every problem is to tax the people.
This is the norm in New Jersey now. Why are we standing for this?
