My fiance and I are looking for a great and diverse community in New Jersey. I'm so confused! We are looking to spend around $679,000-$700,000. We are looking for communities with great schools, shopping, and entertainment. I'm also interested in having quite a bit of space between us and our neigbhors. Where do I start?

Would you be commuting to New York city or would you work in NJ? Some of the best places in nj in my personal opinion would be places like Jackson, Millstone,Middletown, Brick, Roosevelt. Monmouth and Ocean counties are great places with great schools, entertainment, food etc.. In Millstone and Jackson, you can get between 3 and four acres of land with a house in your price range. Millstone is more rural-like than jackson, although jackson has many Rural areas. Millstone has alot of farms and fields but is within 5-10 minutes of major roads, malls etc.. I would go with Millstone if you want your space but also want shopping etc.

Check Eastern Morris county (Chatham, Madison, Florham Park). Western Union (Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights). Western Essex (Livingston, Short Hills, Millburn).

Those are all great towns. Spend a weekend checking out their downtowns, etc. I live in Madison, great town, centrally located, and the houses aren't stacked on top of one another.

ditto the above - will you be commuting to NYC? If not, where will you be working? Is public transportation important?

My fiance owns his own company and I work from home. So we won't need to commute often probably about twice a week. A town where the commute is an hour to an hour and a half would be great.

Both towns are really nice. Great schools, family-oriented communities. You'll definitely get more for your money in Scotch Plains. Westfield has a great downtown with shops, restaurants, etc.
