When I was younger I used to think of Kearny as guido.

But that was many moons ago. Damn I'm getting old.

Now I think there's a lot of Koreans there.

Yeah that's true everyone's a bit racist.

But it seems so hard to understand why the demographic shift in Kearny was so rapid, at least when you consider the businesses on Kearny Ave.

Lets just be real the idea of diversity is a complete fantasy. People live in communities based on their race/culture, income and age. Its nothing racist about it, humans naturally gather homogeneously with most things in life.
That is true. We usually tend to stick with our own.

But if you look at places like Clifton, Belleville, and Bloomfield, you do see people happily living in integrated areas, for the most part.

Integration is still possible.

I realize that race wasn't the only important factor in determining the flight of white families.

Many of the white families are aging and many of the children probably moved to more hip towns like Morristown or slightly more higher-income areas.

Race wasn't the only determining factor but it did play a significant role, perhaps in my opinion.

But I agree with the posters here, it was not the only one.

Case closed.

I do notice if you go further into Kearny as you approach N. Arlington, there is a mixture of very wealthy Italian and working class whites. The part of Kearny that borders Harrison has always been primarily Latino.

I don't think it was rapid. As far as I know, the switchover from Irish-Scots to Hispanic has been going on for at least twenty years or more.

It is "racist," but not racist.
