Never seen this mentioned.

Ever take a cab ride from NYC to NJ?? Well, good luck...My experience most cabs dont want to go to NJ at all. If they do, get ready to pay..big time..minimum $50+ just to go to JC...What a racket...

taxi fare FROM nyc to NJ by law should be double the meter plus the toll for the cab to go back to NYC

For trips outside the City you're essentially paying about double what the meter fare would be.

If you're taking a trip within the city for a distance of, say 10 miles, you'd be charged the meter fare, which could be about 20 or 30 bucks. The driver then leaves you to find another revenue trip. For a trip outside the City, the driver cannot pick up passengers after he drops you off. He has to deadhead back to the city before he can resume revenue service. It's only fair that the passenger pay for that return non-revenue trip.

The TLC Rules say that for trips outside the City, passengers and drivers negotiate the fare before the trip begins. So if you think a cab driver is suggesting a fare that's unreasonable, you can try and talk him down. But $50 is about as low as you'll find. Much less and it wouldn't be worth it for the driver to make the trip. If you think it's outrageous, take PATH to JC instead.

From the TLC website:
For a trip beyond the limits of New York City, except Westchester or Nassau Counties, or Newark Airport, the fare shall be a flat rate (a flat rate is a definite amount fixed between the driver and the passenger at the start of the trip). This flat rate shall be negotiated prior to the trip and entered into the meter via the technology enhancements or TPEP system (when available) using Rate Code 5.

they must have changed the rules, it used to always be double the meter to NJ
